
Hi guys!!!! I am so excited about Fourth of July ( Independence Day) and it is one of my faovorite holidays. This was also a vital point in American History. Today I am going to post some of the background information about Fourth of July. It is the day when the Declaration of Independence was approved. The second continental congress met in Philadelphia, PA to discuss the issue of gaining independence from the British Empire. The idea of thirteen colonies breaking free from British rule was actually introduced by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. Then, Thomas Jefferson was appointed to write the Declaration of Independence. During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence. Then the congress approved the Declaration of Independence on July 4th , 1776. :) Many people believe that it was signed by the delegates on 4th of July, but it was actually signed after almost a month, on August 2, 1776 (Its still a debate though). America finally became an independent nation in 1783, after the Treaty of Paris was signed. The Declaration of Independence is now in National Archives in Washington D.C ( i wanna go there so much!). About 150 copies were made in a nearby printing shop when the Declaration of Independence was approved. These copies were read in public and one of the copies was sent to Washington and his troops. The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 delegates. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" This statement is very popular and significant and inspired many people like Abraham Lincoln. Okay, I think that is enoguh background info. Fourth of July is celebrated with happiness and patriotism. I persionally like the fireworks and the parades. :D Many people don't like history, but this is very intresting, and i suggest that you read about it even more. Happy Independence Day!
